From the Sellers:
Welcome to Harrison!
We want to share some things with you to help familiarize yourself with our neighborhood. The Harrison neighborhood is a bright and vibrant part of Minneapolis, offering many unique qualities for the folks who live here.
One of the best parts of living in Harrison is the accessibility to many of the best qualities our city has to offer. This house is within two minutes of 394, 94, 35W, and Highway 55. This centralized location has allowed for smooth commutes for both of us the entire time we have lived here. We also enjoy easy access to Uptown, Downtown, Loring Park, and the North Loop. We have been able to bike to the Walker, Target Field, the Vikings Stadium and variety of restaurants in the popular North Loop.
Our neighborhood offers walking access to a variety of green spaces, including Bassett Creek Park, Bryn Mawr Meadows, and of course, Theodore Wirth Park. Theo Wirth offers swimming beaches, picnic areas, paved walking/biking trails, hiking paths through the woods, a golf course, and mountain biking courses. We are a short bike ride from the Parkway System, providing quick access to Cedar Lake, Lake of the Isles, and Lake Calhoun. Additionally, there are several children’s parks within walking distance, including Harrison Park, which is just two blocks from this home, and offers two playgrounds, baseball fields, basketball courts, soccer fields, and a wading pool.
We have enjoyed frequenting the Minneapolis Farmer’s Market nearly every weekend, which is within walking distance of this home. There are several microbreweries within walking distance including Fulton, Freehouse, Modest Brewing, the North Loop Brew Company, and Utepils Brewing, which will be located in the Harrison Neighborhood and is scheduled to open in 2016. There are several design companies making their home along Glenwood Ave. that are attracting artists to the neighborhood.
We have valued the rich diversity that exists in the Harrison Neighborhood. We walk down the block and readily engage with people from every cross-section of society; including age, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, race, family makeup, and religion. Our daughter has had the great opportunity to develop relationships with children throughout our neighborhood, many of whom who identify differently from ourselves.
Harrison is a fabulous neighborhood for people who want to be actively engaged in their community. The Harrison Neighborhood Association is committed to developing a positive sense of community. They host regular block parties, ice cream socials, and presentations on issues that impact the people who are living in this area. The churches and community organizations located in Harrison are deeply invested in grassroots efforts to develop community and to making this a safe and engaging place to live. Venture North is much more than a coffee shop, and offers classes for youth to learn how to build bikes and bike safely in the city. There are four community gardens within a two block radius from this home, and adults in the community offer classes for others who are interested in learning about nutrition and gardening. There is even a community Stone Pizza Oven located half a block from this house. Delicious!
We have met many fantastic neighbors living on Morgan. The neighbor directly South of us has served as president of the Neighborhood Association and has been a pillar of this community for decades. He knows everyone here and encourages folks to get involved in community efforts. He mowed and shoveled our yard on several occasions after we had a child. He has been a good neighbor to us over the years.
Best of luck on your home-search!
